How to configure the programme guide (EPG) in Megacubo
The EPG is associated with a playlist, not with the application: you point the guide's XML file at the playlist, and from then on every channel shows its schedule. It takes four steps, and the guide stays optional — without it the channels work the same.
Before you start
- A playlist already added — if you do not have one yet, start with adding an M3U playlist
- The guide file — an
.xmlin XMLTV format; many providers deliver it with the playlist
Megacubo does not provide the EPG, the same way it does not provide channels: the guide comes from your playlist's provider or from a public EPG source.
Step by step
- Open My Lists — and go into the edit screen of the playlist the guide belongs to.
- Choose Associate Program Guide — the option that attaches a guide to that playlist.
- Select the guide file — the
.xmlyou already have, from your provider or from a public EPG source. - Check the schedule on a channel — open a channel from that playlist and use the Program Guide option to see the times.
Steps checked on 2026-09-25 in the project's documentation (Using IPTV Lists). The interface can change between versions.
The EPG address in the options
Besides associating a file with a playlist, the application takes EPG addresses in the options — the epg setting, which accepts one address or a list of them. That is the path when your provider publishes the schedule at a URL that updates itself, instead of delivering a file to download every so often.
It is worth knowing what that path costs: every guide loaded takes memory, and on older devices or TV boxes that shows. Low-end device mode, in the performance options, reduces how many playlists and guides are loaded at once — in exchange for fewer channels available at once.
When the schedule does not appear
- A different identifier — the guide identifies the channel by an identifier; if the playlist provider and the EPG provider use different names, the schedule does not match the channel
- A guide from another country or time zone — the times come out shifted, because XMLTV carries the time in its own time zone reference
- A stale guide — many public guides cover only a few days; it works today and not next week
- Device memory — with many guides loaded, the schedule can be slow to appear or never finish
The full path for that last one is on the EPG does not sync.
Frequently asked questions
Does Megacubo provide the EPG?
No. The programme guide comes from your provider or from a public EPG source in XMLTV format, and it is you who associates it with the playlist. With no EPG associated, the channels work normally — what is missing is only the schedule.
Why is the schedule empty on some channels?
Because the guide has to identify the channel by the same identifier the playlist uses. When the playlist provider and the EPG provider use different names for the same channel, the schedule does not match — and in that case what fixes it is using the guide that comes with your playlist, or entering the EPG address in the application's options.
Does the EPG make the application heavier?
Yes, every guide loaded takes memory, and the effect shows on older devices and TV boxes. Low-end device mode, in the performance options, reduces how many playlists and guides are loaded at the same time — in exchange for fewer channels available at once.
